
The hand tool is for moving the map around in the map window. Click the hand icon in the toolbar and, with the hand on the map, click and hold the left mouse button and drag the map around the screen to move to a different area of the map.
The keyboard command to change to Move (hand tool) is:

Click the Zoom icon on the toolbar and, with the magnifying glass on the map, place it upon the centre of the area to which you want to zoom in or out, then click the left mouse button to zoom in, and the Ctrl+left (Windows) Alt+left (Mac) mouse button to zoom out.
When the Zoom tool is selected, you can Zoom to a defined area by clicking and holding the left mouse button and dragging to highlight a rectangular area to view. A gray shaded area will appear as you drag the mouse showing you the area that you will zoom into.
The slide bar on the left side of the Map Window can also be used to zoom in + and out -
Also you can use Cmd + (Mac) Ctrl + (Windows) for zoom in and Cmd - (Mac) Ctrl - (Windows) for zoom out
The keyboard command to change to the Zoom tool is:
* Ctrl+Alt+Z for Windows
* Alt+Opt+Z for Mac
